QUACK Ltd: the QAC-UK Ltd scam

It almost sounds like a prank: the bogus accreditation body that lent validity to the just as bogus London-based Irish International University (IIU), is called QAC-UK Ltd - the Quality Assurance Commission. Looks like someone, inspired by the French Connection's 'FCUK' suggestive acronym, worked out an (apt) anagram of QUACK to name the sham accreditation body.

To top it all, behind the woolly image of the IIU is the university's Honorary Chancellor, His 'Excellency' Baron Knowth - in fact, a chartered accountant whose real name is, appropriately, Professor Jeffrey Wooller.

Unfortunately, none of the IIU's 5000 students, nor its several thousand alumni, nor yet prestigious Oxford and Cambridge, which allowed the IIU to hold its graduation ceremonies on their premises without checking out their client, suspected any quackery. The scam was exposed by an elaborate investigation, set up by the BBC.
